Plaza España!

Yesterday we walked to Plaza España, its "only" about 100 years old, but if I didn't read it its history, anyone would guess it goes back several centuries due to its architecture. Last time we were here we saw it in the evening, a total different experience, a little more dramatic at night. But during the day it's easier to appreciate the architecture. Around the half circle, each city has a grotto, ( in spanish its called "gruta") which shows a map where the city is located and its borders with some significant design about what they stand for. Here is the one for Sevilla....

                               

Two other cities, hard to read the names....you get the idea. All designs are done with colorful tiles and appeared to be hand painted.

This is a fabulous plaza, the building is currently used by the government for public offices like the social security and others with entrance from the outside or back of the building. There is a man made river-like where canoes can be rented to go around....I bet these are popular in the summer.

Sevilla is truly an amazing city, so much to see, when we were leaving buses with tourists were arriving, it was getting dark!!!!
